Blacksticks Blue Cheese
Lullaby
1. The Creative Challenge
The objective was to produce a national TV and digital campaign for Butlers’ award-winning Blacksticks Blue that broke away from the standard tropes of food advertising. Working alongside Trevor Robinson OBE at Quiet Storm, the challenge was to move beyond literal product shots to capture the "quirky" and artisanal spirit of the brand. We needed to build a visual world that felt sophisticated and storied, yet mischievous enough to grab attention during a competitive commercial break.
2. The Approach
Rather than traditional cinematography, we developed a narrative world inspired by shadow puppetry. This approach enabled us to use a restricted colour palette to create a high-impact, theatrical atmosphere.
Intricate Silhouettes: We designed a cast of "village folk" with a penchant for artisanal cheese, focusing on expressive movement and detailed outlines to convey personality without the need for full-colour rendering.
Sonic Character: To complement the bold visuals, we collaborated with Louis Barabbas & The Bedlam Six, whose eccentric, high-energy score provided the "theatrical grit" the project required.
Technical Synergy: Working with Edit 19, we ensured the digital animation maintained the tactile, rhythmic quality of physical puppets, syncing the movement perfectly to the driving soundtrack.
3. The Solution
The campaign successfully transformed the brand into a festive, folkloric landmark. By replacing standard food photography with a rich, high-contrast digital environment, we helped Blacksticks Blue claim a unique territory in the market. The final film blended the charm of traditional storytelling with modern motion design, positioning the cheese as a premium product with a distinct, "indie" soul that resonated across national TV and social platforms.
